As I was talking to someone at work yesterday we got talking about a good old family roast.
And I was shocked to hear that so many families don't actually do this now.
I know that meat is very expensive, as is all food to be fair, but even in tough times we have always ensured that Sunday remains a family day, with all of us sat round the table discussing what the past week had held and our hopes for the upcoming week too.
So my question must be do you still have a tradional Sunday lunch?

No, never! I've been a vegetarian for most of my life and I don't enjoy boiled veg and roast potatoes one little bit. x
ReplyDeleteWe always have a sunday roast (or at the very least, a sit down sunday meal). I couldn't imagine not.
ReplyDeleteI can understand that side Vix, as Ashleigh was a vegetarian for quite sone time and a roast then held no interest! However the interaction as a family as always been the big thing.

I hate to admit but I've reached my mid 30's with only ever having cooked a roast a few times. I'd love to master the art of a good joint of beef (just like Mum used to make)... perhaps our new house will lend itself to this, I do love the idea of having regular family time.

ReplyDeleteMe and hubby still love our Sunday roasts I mean after all Sunday would not be Sunday without a roast dinner.
I don't eat much meat so I tend to have the veg, potatoes and roast potatoes.
I read somewhere that a lot of people with young kids go to McDonalds for their Sunday lunch...sorry but I think what sort of food is that for kids xx

Not every Sunday, but then it is just the two of us and we eat together most nights anyway. As the cook in this house I love doing roasts - there's always enough meat left over to provide for 2 or 3 main meals during the week and that makes my life a lot easier!
ReplyDeleteDo you know ever since I moved out of home I don't think I've had a Sunday roast (unless I've happened to be visiting home!) It's such a wonderful tradition, it would be a shame if my children (when I have some) didn't get to experience it so I think you've inspired me to learn how to do a mean roast!
ReplyDeleteWe love a roast and usually have them more during the winter. Evening meal though, as 'lunch' including prep and clear up can end up taking all day otherwise.
